Cubement

This research presents CUBEMENT, a modular kit of transparent cubes designed to democratize mechanical movement design by bridging the gap between mechanism building and physical computing. Prototyping mechanical systems often faces high barriers due to low error tolerances and the need for rigid supporting structures. To address this, the project introduces seven functional modules—including motor, gear, and breadboard cubes—that snap together using magnetic connectors with polarity-based error prevention. The transparent housing provides immediate visual and tangible insights into internal mechanical principles, facilitating an intuitive "sketching" process for movement. Furthermore, the system is engineered for extendibility, maintaining compatibility with LEGO Technic components and standard microcontrollers like Arduino. User workshops involving designers and engineers confirmed that the platform significantly reduces the time and effort required for iterative construction and review, serving as a tangible communication medium for complex, intangible mechanical concepts.
