Phantom
Phantom is a media art installation that explores a novel approach to surface hygiene by translating biological antifouling principles into an interactive ultrasonic system, featured in the "Nature Observation 2.0" exhibition hosted by HMG from November 22 to December 2, 2021. While nature utilizes the physical nanopillars of cicada and dragonfly wings to maintain cleanliness, this project investigates a creative alternative: the use of ultrasonic waves to achieve similar repulsive effects. The system selectively removes fine particulates from a surface through calibrated ultrasonic vibrations, gradually revealing intricate, hidden patterns. By manifesting the invisible forces of hygiene through a tangible medium, Phantom bridges the gap between functional sanitation and aesthetic experience, offering an evocative reflection on the intersection of biomimicry and interactive technology within the context of hygiene-driven design.
