Romi

As young children's screen time has significantly increased, maintaining healthy digital media habits has become a critical concern. Romi is a physical peripheral device designed to help children transition away from the screen by reducing the negative experiences often associated with ending screen time. Based on preliminary interviews with parents and experience prototyping, the system was built around three core design attributes: peripheral presence, a connection between the screen and the device, and a friendly character. By shifting a child's foreground attention from the digital content to a physical object, Romi supports self-regulation and provides motivation for a seamless transition to offline activities.
