Snow Message

Snow Message is a kinetic installation that visualizes urgent environmental warnings from disappearing glaciers through a dynamic blizzard of snowflakes. Developed for the "Noli: Jeux Coreens" exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center in Paris during the 2024 Olympics, this project transforms physical particles into a temporal display of climate crisis. As viewers approach the installation, it detects their presence and generates localized snowstorms, fostering an interactive playfulness that transitions into a somber reflection. Upon entering a specific boundary, the turbulent blizzard subsides to reveal sequential messages in French—"Sauvons les glaciers"—followed by the real-time clock, emphasizing the relentless passage of time and the fragility of our ecosystems. Technically, the system employs a specialized chamber where styrofoam particles are suspended by levitation fans and manipulated by a grid of 288 exhaust fans. By selectively activating these fans, the particles adhere to a black fabric screen to form high-contrast white pixels. This mechanism creates a unique visual medium where images accumulate and dissolve like falling snow, embodying the ephemeral nature of time and the precarious state of the global environment through a tangible, cross-reality interaction.
