TransWall
This research presents TransWall, an innovative transparent double-sided touch display designed to facilitate co-located, face-to-face multimodal interactions. While conventional transparent displays are typically limited to single-sided use, this project enables users to stand on opposite sides of a screen to see, hear, and even "touch" one another virtually. The system integrates a holographic screen film with infrared touch frames, surface transducers for vibrotactile feedback, and microphones to transmit voices across the barrier. By leveraging unique interaction design factors—such as touching the same spot from both sides without physical interference and overlaying virtual imagery on real-world users—the study explores new dimensions of interpersonal communication. Through various content scenarios like "Chromatic rubber band" and "Talk through," the research demonstrates how TransWall can bridge physically isolated spaces, such as germ-free rooms, while providing a vivid, collaborative social experience that conventional displays cannot offer.
